Maintenance crews and grounds keepers working for industrial complexes and office parks have the responsibility of keeping all of the physical facilities of the buildings running properly and ensuring that HVAC systems, electrical and plumbing equipment are all running smoothly. From the inside the building maintenance is an invisible force that is quietly responsible for everything operating, as it should. On the outside of the buildings in the office parks and industrial complexes are the public grounds that often are professionally landscaped to beautify and add color to the buildings that they surround.

These well groomed open spaces and flowerbeds are covered with grass, trees and occasionally have a water feature like a fountain or man made pond in them. When the buildings were erected, landscape architects brought in the trees, flowers and other plants and laid sod to create the balance between nature and industry. Once established these outside grounds must be properly cared for and maintained by landscape contractors that bring in crews of groundskeepers to manage the upkeep of the gardens and park areas of the building complexes.

Landscape contractors often bid for the privilege of keeping up the publicly viewed grounds and open spaces in these business parks and have the unique responsibility of assuring that the gardens and lawns are always presented in their best light. The challenge for a landscape contractor working independently may be to land a contract for a building park or other large grounds keeping project, and competing against the larger professional landscape contractors that have numerous contracts because they are affiliated with a national presence and are recognized for having local connections within the city to provide landscape maintenance.

That is not to say that an independent landscape contractor cannot secure contracts for larger projects, it is just easier for the property management companies to recommend working with landscape contractors that have a presence or reputation that is recognized in the larger market. To the credit of the professional grounds crews that work to keep Americas business parks looking clean and crisp their attention to detail and exceptional manicuring of the lawns and flowerbeds reflect the upkeep of the entire complexes that they service.

The reflection on property management firms and leasing companies that is made from businesses viewing the outside grounds of the business park makes a lasting impression on the corporate tenants that inhabit the buildings. When a building and its grounds are well kept and immaculately groomed by professional landscape contractors the reflection on the professionalism of all businesses residing in the complex is established.
