When the 2008 film The Dark Knight flew across the screens, it was an international sensation, becoming the second highest grossing film of all time and was nominated for numerous awards for being the first film based on a comic book to elevate its characters to the A list. A sequel to the film is one of the most talked about things in movies right now, and as a result, there are countless rumors flying around about casting, the story, release dates, characters, and all of that when in all actuality these are JUST rumors. Here are some of the bigger rumors that are flying around, some of which could be true, and others are just outlandish.

A newspaper had reported that Eddie Murphy was in talks to sign on in the film to portray the Riddler. That claim in of itself was considered ridiculous, and nobody took it seriously at all. Then another rumor went flying around that actress Megan Fox would be playing Catwoman. Also completely false and ridiculous. Fox is an actress who is popular for looks only, and almost every film critic agrees that her acting capabilities are comparable to that of Keanu Reeves.

Another rumor that had been flying around was that of Academy Award winning actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman playing the villain the Penguin. This too turned out to be false, with the actor denying any involvement with the film.

Another rumor, one that is very likely, is that director of the first two films, Christopher Nolan, would be returning to direct the third, and most likely final installment of the series. This is still unconfirmed, as Nolan has another project lined up which could delay the third film, but many think that third Batman film will indeed be directed by him, which would make many fans very happy.

Another bit of news that is still a rumor came directly from Gary Oldman, who plays Commissioner Gordon in the films. Oldman stated that the third film would begin filming in 2010, but many are not sure whether or not he was telling the truth or if he was just trying to mess with the fans. There has been no official word either way on whether it is true or not.

So with everything still up in the air at this point, the only thing confirmed about the third film is that all of the major actors in the films are contractually obligated to return. So fans will just have to wait and take any rumor that is not confirmed with a grain of salt.
