Most people know that having an unclean source of water can be very dangerous to health and well-being. These days, there are many sources of water contamination. There are those derived from industrial resources; they contribute to the contamination of water with various heavy metals like lead, mercury, and chromium. These heavy metals are popular for causing serious medical complications that eventually lead to death. Agricultural sources are also notorious for contaminating water sources with pesticides, herbicides, and fertilisers. These substances can cause massive growth of algae that can harm and decimate a whole aquatic habitat.

Even classical water purification substances like chlorine have been associated with diseases such as cancer.

The good news is that there are more choices if people want cleaner water. Best of all, the methods of purification are very safe, and not harmful at all. These days there are greener options to clear water, such as:

1. UV Light

The idea of using ultraviolet (UV) rays to purify water has been around for more than seventy years. However, it was only recently that experts have begun to look for ways by which it could be utilised to do just that. UV treatment is usually done as a final touch to a system of water purifiers. Their job is to make sure that no biological agents are present to contaminate the water system.

The water goes through a tube where an ultraviolet lighting device is present. This is usually in the form of ultraviolet fluorescent bulbs. The light coming from these devices is enough to kill bacteria at once, without any further additions to the water. The important thing to do here is to keep the light source clean to maintain its ability to remove all bacteria. The lights of these bulbs also need to be replaced regularly.

2. Solar Power

Solar energy coming from solar panels can also be used to deter the growth of bacteria. This technology can also be used for storage tanks as well.

Bacteria that are left behind in water are able to grow if the water becomes stagnant for too long. They can even resist the purging effects of chlorine. The water then turns out to be stale and unsafe. Any chlorine left behind in the water is rendered ineffective. The water then becomes very conducive to the growth of bacteria. However, there are some pumps that function as water purifiers and work using solar power. They keep the water in circulation, constantly. Of course these devices do not need input from electricity, making them friendly towards the environment.

You can find other types of purifiers that are rendered eco friendly. Today, man has made an effort to ensure that modern technology will not pose a problem to Mother Earth, and with this in mind, makers of water purifying systems - be they for personal or commercial use - have become more responsible and "green." You can find other kinds of eco-friendly purifiers being manufactured today simply by browsing through the Internet.
