You take for granted that when you push that knob, that garage doors will open. They probably will, but why? You have a lot of options when it comes to the devices used to open your garage doors. Gone are the days of getting out of the car, grabbing a handle and pushing up this heavy door. Today, you have a lot of options and if you keep the in good working order, they make your life much easy.
First of all, the invention of the electric motor opener was the greatest convenience ever when it comes to your garage doors. This device is mounted to the ceiling and connected to it through a series of chains or belts. Using a pulley system, the motor activates the chain, belt or rod which moves the rollers either up or down along the tracks that run from the motor and along the sides of it.
Now that you have this fantastic convenience, how do you use it? Two opening devices come with an electric motor-a hardwired button and then a remote device for your car. The hardwired button is for your convenience when you are in the home. It is directly connected to the motor, but you can place it by your door out to the garage. You set the remote to the same frequency of the motor and then place it on your visor.
Now, the first remotes had one button. Today, they have three so you can program each button for different doors. Say you have a detached garage with an electric door as well. Instead of having a bunch of remotes, you can use the same one. These days, vehicles are coming standard with this same remote technology built into the car. So, now you can program these buttons for each door and never have to worry that the battery is dead or that you forgot the remote in another vehicle.
But, if you find yourself without the remote, there is yet another device that gives you access to your house. Mounted inside the frame, but on the outside, you can have a keypad entry. This allows you to choose a four digit PIN. When entered correctly, this code opens doors.
This is all well and good, but what if the power is out? Of course, always carry that traditional old house key with you, but they are equipped for this as well. You can have a manual release handle installed on it. A quick turn of it releases the door from the motor and now you can manually open and enter it.
Advancements in these mechanisms continue to offer us the most convenient use of the car parking space you have. Who knows what will be next?
