Ebooks are quickly becoming more popular as the world is shifting toward an all media standpoint. Not only are we obsessed with electronic gadgets, we also want to save the planet and save on cutting down trees. As both of these ideas merge together, so does the concept of the ebook. And not only are adults reaping the benefits, so are kids. There are many online book sites for kids to look at books right on their computer.
Most people will agree that anyway to help a child to get interested in books is a good idea. Most kids are interested in video games and computer games, so introducing ebooks might be a smooth transition. Kids love being on the computer and having the mouse right in the palm of their hands, and they can do this while reading a good book. Parents and educational professionals love the way that the computer allows kids to see books in a different light.
Ebooks can be online books that your child may have to read or they can be books that are read aloud to them. You can find children`s ebooks in novel formats, fiction and non-fiction and picture books. Many of these books feature beautiful animation that brings the story to life. Kids get excited when they see the bright picture of the story on their computer screen.
There are several places to check for kids online ebooks. There is a site called The New York Public Library where you can look at and download stories if you have one of their library cards. This is a great idea that hopefully will catch on with many other libraries as well.
Tumble books that are a part of the new York Public Library is a large collection of animated picture books that are read aloud. Many kids feel very special when a book is read to them and often adults find that reading books aloud to kids is very time consuming and while they might do it for a few minutes a day, many kids could have books read to them for hours which make the ebooks read aloud such a novel idea.
Another source called; Children`s books online: The Rosetta Project is a volunteer run program that has scanned historic books for kids; some of the books are translated into several languages. There is another site called the International Children`s Digital Library. The goal there is to produce over 10,000 online books in over a hundred languages. Access would be given to everyone, including teachers, professionals and families.
Storyline Online is a great site that features famous actors who read books aloud to kids. Not only will kids find it interesting but parents might be inclined to pay for the ebooks knowing that they can see or hear their favorite celebrity reading a book aloud to their child.
Many ebooks for kids also offer extra features, such as online quizzes, and comparable posted results, many sites have interactive areas for kids to really think about the books they have just read. There might even be book clubs online to talk about the books as they are read. Kids who already love to be on the computer will find that ebooks fit well into their lives.
These books can be purchased online and stored on a memory stick or right on your computer`s hard drive.
