A sump pump is a mechanism that is commonly used to pump out water from a collection pit. In most, if not all homes, this is usually found in the basement. The battery should be maintained and checked periodically from time to time so as to make sure that it will have enough charge when the time comes for it to function. The unit has a float device which triggers it when it reaches a certain point. It is best to make sure that the float in the device is not stuck to anything which may hamper it from detecting the right level.
