There was a time when people did not care much about what material they used on the floor of their house. This has however, undergone a sea change, and most of us are as concerned about the floor as we are about the outside of the house. One of the most popular materials used to create stunning floors these days are porcelain floor tiles. These are extremely popular as they look attractive and are competitively priced.

These tiles are low maintenance and durable, but they do need to be cleaned at regular intervals to keep them sparkling. A vast variety of cleaning substances are available in the market that will help to keep these tiles in excellent shape at all times. Certain products are also available that are capable of removing stains while maintaining the original color of the tiles. Search the Internet and look for the variety of options, so that you are able to get exactly what you are looking for. Ask your friends, learn from their mistakes, and take care not to repeat them.

The porcelain floor tiles will usually resist staining and are extremely easy to clean and maintain. These are much easier to clean as compared to wooden and marble floors, both of which require a lot of time and effort. You just need to take care of the following basic points for the best result:

Try and prevent the entry of dirt into your house. This can be done by having separate footwear when inside homes and also vacuuming the floor at least twice a week. Close the windows if and when there is a storm, or heavy winds, and make it a habit to clean regularly.

When you are sweeping the floor, do so with a broom made of soft bristles. Also, ensure that you sweep both ways so as to remove the dirt completely from between the tiles and within the grooves of the tiles, if there are any.

Use a general purpose cleaner to mop the floor at least once a week. Do not scrub the surface at all and rinse it with clean water to remove traces of the cleaner used. Always ensure that no amount of cleaner is left on the tiles, as it could be extremely harmful to them and reduce their life by a great deal.

The most important thing is never to use ammonia based cleaners or bleach, as these will usually discolour the tiles. Once a tile is discoloured, there is no way to get it back to its original colour and the only option left is to replace it with a new tile.

Use vinegar whenever possible and mix about one fourth of a cup of vinegar in about 2 gallons of water for the best effect. This will really bring out the colour of these tiles without harming them in any way.

If you plan to purchase a specialised cleaner to keep your porcelain floor tiles sparkling, select one from a well-known company. Do not try and save money in this regard, as a good cleaner will enhance the life of your tiles, while a cheap cleaner could discolour or harm your tiles.
