Construction Has Some Dangerous Jobs

When it comes to home building, there are many different contractors that are involved. Fomr the first excavator to the finish carpenter, there are a lot of hands that are involved in building a home or any other building. Perhaps one of the most dangerous jobs in building a home is in the roofing company. Roofers are usually up high and have to be able to work with both hands while balancing in high places. Some roofs are much easier than others, but some are also a lot more difficult than others.

The pitch of the roof has a lot to do with how hard it is to work on it. The steeper the pitch, the tougher it is to shingle it. For example, a common, really steep pitch is called a 12X12 pitch. This means that for every 12 inches toward the center of the roof line, it also raises 12 inches. This is very steep and not a roof that can be done simply by standing on it. Roofing a house like this requires the person to be tied of and working from ropes and pulleys.

On the other hand, a roof that is called a 12X4 pitch, the person roofing the house can simply be standing on the roof and is not required to be ties off unless it is above a certain height. These are often a nice job to do because of how easy they can be and they can be done a lot quicker than a steeper pitch roof.

Another dangerous job in construction is that of the framers. They are building the framework from which everything else will be hung. While framing is solid and capable of holding all of the plywood, sheetrock, brick and other things that go on it to make a home, it is not that way until it is all tied together. Getting to that point is what can be scary as a framer. Hanging the rafter, for example, can be a bit touchy because they have to balance on top of the framed walls that they have built.

After the first few are done it gets easier and a little less scary. That first one though can be very scary. They are standing on top of the wall, trying to balance on it and also get this rafter swung up to the right position, measure it, and then nail it down to the top of the framework, all while not holding onto anything else.
