There are several reasons to use diagnostic imaging. If your doctor is trying to figure out what your ailment is, he will most likely suggest you use some for or other of diagnostic imaging. There are several different types that he can use depending upon your situation. For instance, if you have a physical injury of some sort, you will most likely be swayed to get an x-ray or more. If you suffer with some sort of disease, you may need to get some blood work done. Using these methods to correctly diagnose your problems is a smart and safe way to approach your issue.

As mentioned earlier, an x-ray is a common form of diagnostic imaging. X-rays use the science of electromagnetic radiation to take photos of your skeleton through your skin. Believe it or not, there were several 19th century inventors that looked into this technology. Thomas Edison is a famous inventor who was intrigued with this technology. While he did work on it, it was Wilhelm Rontgen who received much credit for his work regarding this type of science. X-rays are a great way to tell if bones are broken or if ligaments are torn. It can also help to find tumors or foreign objects that should not be in the body.

Another type that was mentioned earlier in this article is an MRI, which stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. These are used to also study inside the body and are most commonly used in ultrasounds for pregnancy, although, they can be used for other purposes as well. Whenever you have a health care professional performing any type of diagnostic imaging, it is incredibly important to ensure that they are accredited appropriately. Using this technology is not to be done by amateurs, which is why accreditation is so important.

Some issues that require diagnostic imaging will need to be combined with blood work to ensure that the diagnosis is correct. Blood work helps physicians to correctly identify any issues that may be lurking in your body. Often, when blood work is done, a sample of your blood is taken to a lab where they will test it for various diseases. More often than not, urine samples are also collected for the same purposes.

Some things can be determined from blood and urine that cannot be determined any other way. When an issue is correctly diagnosed, it can be correctly treated. Thanks to the many different types of diagnostic imaging, medical science is continually evolving to better provide solutions to health problems.
