One of the best things that a child can do when in the young years is to take a lesson in an instrument. Many kids take piano lessons and they do this because their mom and dad make them do it. Piano lessons are the most popular because it is the easiest to find a teacher for, it has the most practical application and the family usually already has a piano in the home.
However, not all kids want to play the piano. Some would like to learn how to play the guitar. While this is not the most practical, it is reasonably practical and probably second in line to only the piano as the most practical. One way for the parent and the child to both get what they would like in this manner is to let the child take guitar lessons contingent on their continuing their piano lessons. This also makes the child a lot smarter and able to handle a little bit more. They become talented in both the piano and the guitar and they are able to use those skills throughout their life. This will also make learning yet another musical instrument a lot easier in their later teen years if they decided that they wanted to try another instrument for the high school band or something like that.
Finding someone who teaches guitar lessons, especially for children, may seem difficult at first. However, it is usually as easy as going to a local guitar shop and asking them. Often times they will know of people who give lessons and may even have some fliers from people who want to give guitar lessons.
The skills learned in playing the instruments are not the only skills obtained. Discipline and coordination of the hands are other skills that are gained that can translate into many aspects of life. Determination is another skill that can be acquired through early lessons in the piano, guitar or some other instrument. All of these are very applicable to many things in life.
There is no doubt that the parents are the major motivator for children taking lessons in an instrument at a young age. Children often lose interest the first time that they struggle, which is usually in the first lesson or two. However, it is good that the parents help push the child through because they are learning lifelong skills by sticking with something through tough times.
