If you are looking at purchasing a television then you are most likely overwhelmed by the large number of choices out there that seem to overwhelm the market. There are a dozen or so manufacturers out there which all seem to make slightly different models with different prices. This article is going to explain some of the differences that you should be aware of in televisions and how that should affect your buying decision.

First of all there is the whole high definition situation. High definition is seen by most people as the next big change in the television world by this they mean that it is following in the footsteps of the VHS and the DVD. This means that this relatively new technology will be getting cheaper and cheaper. For instance when personal VCRs first became available people were paying a thousand or more for one. This was back in the seventies and eighties and so that was quite a bit of money. Now you can buy a VCR for around twenty five dollars just about anywhere. The same thing is going to happen with high definition and so you need to decide if you want to invest in it now or just hold off for a decade until it gets a little cheaper. High definition is also more expensive from a service standpoint. If you buy a High Definition television the cable service is also going to cost more.

The second thing that you are going to need to decide on is the brand. As mentioned before, there are roughly around ten to fifteen manufacturers in any store. There are substantial differences between some and not so may among others. Televisions are like any other product; you get what you pay for. Therefore the more expensive a television is the more likely it is going to last a long time and have the features that you would like. One of the most common things to fail on a television is the power supply. The main difference you are going t notice between the cheap brands and the expensive brands is the quality of their power supplies.

A third thing that you need to be aware of is the televisions warranty. Usually you have to buy this separately and this can be a good idea. It is not uncommon for the power supplies to go out as mentioned before and the fact that the manufacturer is willing to offer one says a lot about the product.
