Winters can be dreadful, especially in a cold country like United Kingdom. Thankfully there are a lot of heating methods to keep your home warm and cosy, even in chilling weathers. Today the ever evolving technologies have provided us with some really amazing heating devices. Heating is mainly needed for homes or offices. The heating techniques are somewhat similar for both of them.

Before you select any particular method for domestic heating, you should first know the options available to you such as, electric furnace, gas furnace, floor board heaters, solar heating and electric heat pumps. An electric furnace consists of a fan and other heating elements; this form is no longer considered as a suitable option due to high electricity costs.

A gas furnace consists of an enclosure where some gaseous fuel is burned; you have the option of either choosing natural gas or propane for this. Initially they may cost more, but in the long- run it will save you a lot of money. Electric heat pumps are of two types; one uses air and the other uses groundwater sources.

An advantage an Air electric heat pump has, is its ability to heat approximately 50% better than a normal electric furnace. It also serves multiple purposes meaning it can heat air in winter and cool air in summer. A drawback of this pump is that it is customised according to the cooling need of a house as a result of which the heating needs are not fully met when the process is reversed. The second type of pump uses groundwater as a source for heating. This type of pump runs on the same principles like the previous one, but the heat is taken out from water instead of air.

Solar heating is an environmentally friendly way of domestic heating. It involves the use of solar cells to capture sunlight, which is then directly transformed into electricity. Solar heating has great potential and has not been utilised properly until now. Homes that use this technique are called passive solar homes. Another form of heating is Floor board heaters, which are placed under the walls. They take in cold air near the floor, warm them up and then the warm air rises. The cooler air that sinks to the bottom is again heated by the boards. This continues, until the room is heated.

A lot of heating methods have been discussed above; you can either choose any one of them or a combination of the techniques mentioned above, which ever you think is appropriate for your home.
