In the world of industrialization there are many things that are invented in order to make a job easier. It is hard to imagine doing some of the tasks by hand or in some other way than what we do them now.

For example, farmers would have a lot harder work right now if the vacuum pump was not invented, not to mention there could be problems getting water to some high elevation towns.

The vacuum pump was actually invented many years ago, back in the 1600s or so. It has, of course, been improved over the years and had found many new uses, but the concept is essentially the same. Create a vacuum, so there is a void near liquid or gas and that liquid or gas will rush into the void that has been left by the vacuum.

The suction pump was invented back in the 1200s but it was not strong enough to be considered a vacuum pump. Though the concept is a lot the same, the main difference is that the suction was not strong enough to pull the gases or the liquid above a certain height.

In other words, it could only suck the material so far and then it could no more. In fact, a scientist of the day was sent to figure out the problem and that eventually led to the invention of the vacuum pump.

There are many types of these pumps. One of the more popular forms is called a rotary pump. The rotary has a main piece in the interior of the pump that rotates and causes the vacuum that sucks in the liquid or gas from one side to then transfer that liquid or gas from one side of the pump to the other, sending it down the line with enough force to push it through the line.

Rotary vacuum pumps are used in a lot of different types of circumstances. Going back to our example of the farmer, a rotary vacuum pump is used to move water to the places that it needs to go on the farm. Whether it is moving the water down an irrigation line to water the crops or pushing water to a watering trough to water the livestock, the vacuum pump is an essential part of farming work.

Farmers have relied on vacuum pumps for a long time and will continue to do so for as long as the mind can imagine.
