Before you start learning keyboard lessons online, know first the differences between a piano and a keyboard.

First, the keys of the piano are heavier than those of the keyboard. This is needed so you can have better finger control, and the sound of each key will be emphasized well. This is not the same with the keyboard. Hence, when you tap the keyboard keys, they almost sound alike in terms of volume.

There are also more keys in a piano unless it is a full-sized keyboard you are dealing with. Most of the keyboards sold today have only 61 keys while a piano has 88.

Nevertheless, it is easy for you to modify the keyboard than the piano. With the former, you can determine synthesize the sound, perhaps combining the sound of the keys to that of a percussion. You may even attach headphones if you want to practice keyboards silently.

Given these following data, here are the ways on how to find the right keyboard lessons in the Web:

1. Make sure it is for the keyboards. Again, you can go back to the differences between pianos and keyboards. You may just realize that you are already running out of keys simply because you are looking at lessons intended for a piano.

2. See if there is a conversion of chords or keys. If you are lucky, though, you may be able to find websites where piano keys are converted into keyboard keys so it is much easier for you to switch from one instrument to the other. This may be helpful if you have the intention of using a piano after the keyboards.

3. Identify the level of difficulty. Do not ever think that all websites are user friendly. Some of them are not, and you may be spending a lot of time and effort on lessons you will never get to learn at all. This is because the techniques offered may be meant for intermediate or advanced keyboard players.

4. Make sure there are media files available. Surely, you are going to struggle learning how to play the piano when there are no media files available. Texts will only get you far. There should be videos and audio you can watch and listen, respectively. As they say, you can speed up your learning process when you can see and hear something.

5. Read user reviews. Though this is not completely necessary since the level of learning and the preference of websites can vary from one person to another, it may still be useful, especially if you want to know what other keyboard players recommend.

6. Check if there is a message board. Not all websites offering keyboard lessons have this, but if they do, then you have found a gem. A message board permits you to correspond to other website users. You can share experiences, tips, techniques, and even technical issues. It is also highly possible you are going to meet new friends.

You need to keep in mind, though, that these learning websites can only do so much. Unless you are willing to apply what you have learned you will still struggle with learning the keyboards.
