First and foremost, driving in a sensible manner is enough to help reduce your gas costs. If you refrain from speeding, jerking or slamming on your brakes, you can reduce the amount of gas you consume. Ease up on your gas pedal and brakes to make sure you are not wasting gas.

Another way to save on gas is by carpooling. If you and a group of people are all going to the same place, be logical and save time and money by carpooling. If you and your friends can arrange to take turns, then not only will you all be saving money in the long run, you will also be making a significant contribution to the environment. Also, allowing your vehicle to idle is another way people waste gas. One of the reasons that hybrid cars are so efficient on gas is that they turn off instead of idling while waiting for a long light, or in a drive-through. If you find yourself in a long line at the drive-through, turn your car off. And while we all appreciate a warm car on a winter day, it is unnecessary to let you car run for over 15 minutes to get it warmed up. That is wasteful on gas and bad for the environment.
Regular tune-ups and keeping your car in good shape will improve gas efficiency now and in the future.
