Port Hope is known as one of the best preserved historic towns in the region. It has an award winning high street and a large number of listed buildings. The center has a large number of exclusive boutiques and unique shops to spend hours browsing in. There are of course opportunities to get out into nature and the Ganaraska River which runs through the town is renowned for trout and salmon fishing.
For the nature lover and adventure lover the Great Toronto area is a paradise. The possibilities are endless as there are lots of different eco-systems and landscapes to explore. Boating is a popular activity whether it is a slow canoe ride down a wide river, sailing on one of the lakes or some high action white water rafting. Fishing is also very popular and many people go there for the salmon runs. There are well maintained parks with hiking and cycling trails in the summer and sledding and skiing in the winter.
There is an incredible number of sporting, cultural and food festivals held throughout the area ever year. Toronto alone has something happening every week and is home to the International Toronto Film Festival.
If you want to take a trip where you can do a variety of things without too much traveling then the Great Toronto area could be for you. Culture, nature, world famous sights and adventure will all be on your doorstep.
