Using A Pressure Washer

What is a pressure washer, how does it work, and when would you use one? It is a mechanical sprayer that uses very high pressured water that comes out of a hose to clean.

The basic parts that are included are; a motor, high pressured hose, trigger switch, nozzle, and a pump. The hose is similar to a regular garden hose but has a nozzle at the end that is about two and a half feet long and is a lot smaller than the rest of the hose.

It is designed this way so that it forces all of the water that was going through the bigger part of the hose to come out of a small hole which increases the pressure. The water comes out hard and fast instead of just a drip.

Think about when you do the dishes. When you have a pot that has food stuck to it really bad, do you just lightly rub the pot with a sponge?

No, you have to scrub it really hard to force all of that food to come off. The mechanical sprayer is the same idea.

The harder the water comes out, the easier it is to clean off any mold, grime, dust, mud, and dirt off of the surface. There is a pump attached to the washer so that it can bring enough water from the pipe to the machine.

It keeps the water supply constant and keeps the flow equal or higher to that of the washer so that the pump is never short on water. If the pump does not receive enough water to give to the machine, then it can become damaged.

Depending on the job you want done, you can get several different kind of nozzles to attach to your hose. You can find nozzles that cause the water to come out in a triangular plane, a pencil thin jet stream, or a circular jet stream.

If you want, you could find a machine that will allow you to add detergent to the water to help clean off the dirt and make it a little easier. All of these machines are either electric or gas powered.

Some of the gas powered units can heat the water which helps immensely with removing oil and grease from the surface. Most surfaces that need to be cleaned by a pressure washer are; buildings, vehicles, and concrete road surfaces.

All of these surfaces are outside and can be easily cleaned with a lot of water. It does not make a mess and will dry up quickly on a hot day especially if the surface you are working on is in the direct sunlight.

Even though some kids might mistake this machine as a tool to play with, you need to realize that is a strong and dangerous tool that you need to be careful with. The pressure near the nozzle is strong and powerful enough that it could strip flesh from bone.

Obviously the water is being shot out of the nozzle at high speeds and can do a lot more damage than your ordinary hose. The pressure washer is very mobile and easy to use anywhere.

It is small and considerably light. Some people prefer the gas powered units to the electric because the gas powered machines do not require any sort of outlet.

These kind or machines work very well if you do all your cleaning outside. But an electric pressure washer might be a better choice for you if you tend to use indoors a lot.

The electric units do not produce any exhaust and are much quieter than the gas powered ones. You can find whatever you are looking for depending on the situation that you need to use it in.

Using these machines is very helpful when trying to remove graffiti off of walls or oil clogged asphalt. It is very nice to have such a powerful machine aid you in cleaning off any surfaces that you have that might need a little more pressure than washing it off with just a regular hose.
