The Amazon Kindle is primarily an ebook reader. What is an ebook you ask? Ebook stands for electronic book, which is essentially just a book in digital form. You are able to read them on your computer typically and can also find websites devoted to selling ebooks. So what is the Kindle supposed to do? That is what this article is aimed at explaining.

The Kindle, as mentioned before, is an ebook reader. Just as there are portable mp3 players, the Kindle is intended to used as a way to read while on the go. The device is likely used by those who are avid readers, just as mp3 players are typically used by those who often listen to music.

The most recent model is called the Kindle DX, which was released on May 6th in 2009. It has what is called an electronic paper display, which utilizes several shades of grade and a slightly textured surface to simulate paper. Also, while it has had several previous iterations, the current model has a 9.7 inch screen. Its storage capacity is 3.3 GB and it has a battery life between one and two weeks.

Another capability of the Kindle is wireless connectivity. Users are able to access ebook markets in order to purchase and directly download books this way. Along with ebooks, users are able to access or purchase access to a variety of other literature. This can include news papers and magazines. In the future there may be more publications available to ebook readers as well, but that is yet to be seen.

The Kindle also has access to other independent providers of ebooks and information. Content made by users themselves can be found online through the Kindle. These sites may provide free content or that which may be paid for as well. It is important to note that most all ebook readers may also have access to this content, as it is distributed usually with no exclusive rights to one brand of reader or another.

It is estimated currently that over a million Kindles have been sold worldwide. In the future it is likely that newer versions of the device will be released, which will have different features compared with what is currently available. Again, so long as people are listening to music there will likely be mp3 players, so the same may be said of ebook readers as long as people continue to read.
