Moab, Utah, hosts a number of visitors every year. It is mostly known for Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park.

The more well-known of the two, Arches National Park, is home to thousands of natural sandstone arches. These arches have been created by erosion of the rocks over thousands of years.

The main cause of these natural wonders is the underground evaporative layer of salt bed that lies deep within the earth under the park. The weight of the sandstone over thousands of years has caused the salt bed underneath to liquefy and emit large layers of rocky salt domes.

The arches and rock of the park are some of the most majestically beautiful in the western United States. The park is even memorialized on a Utah license plate.

The area has a very mild climate during the winter time, reaching an average temperature of about sixty degrees Fahrenheit. During the summer months, especially in the month of July, temperatures can reach 105 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.

Moab and Arches National Park were once home to the Ancient Pueblo People. Around the park, visitors are able to petroglyphs, or rock carvings, created by this ancient tribe.

Arches National Monument is a place full of things to do. Because of its beauty and unique qualities, photographers have found it to be a very popular place to capture.

There is an abundance of wildlife in this park that would be perfect to photograph, if you are quick on the draw. Many beautiful birds, like the peregrine falcon and sparrows call Arches home.

There are also desert Bighorn sheep, mule deer, mountain lions, and rattle snakes. These desert creatures are beautiful, but many of them are dangerous and should be avoided.

Arches National Park is one of the premiere locations for rock climbing in Utah. There are plenty of climbs available for almost every level of difficulty.

The park is also a designated place for mountain bikers. The rocky terrain and sloped hills make it a great destination.

If you do not have access to a bike, there are plenty of places that rent out athletic equipment in Moab. These are also a good choice if you are unable to bring your mountain bike with you.

When performing this type of activity, always wear protective equipment like helmets and pads. The sloped sandstone terrain in Arches National Park is mostly safe for bikers, but you should always take safety precautions to protect yourself.

There is a great deal of hikes within the park, as well. If you enjoy exploring the outdoors, taking a hike will ensure that you get the most out of your visit to Moab.

There are many tour companies that offer guided hikes along some of the popular trails in Arches. Research different companies and read reviews regarding their services online before you leave for your trip so that you will be prepared and ready once you arrive in Moab.

If you prefer to explore the red sandstone formations and arches of Moab in a vehicle, try taking an exciting Jeep Tour through the park. Jeeps make sturdy and safe off-road vehicles that are perfect for touring the rocky desert terrain.

The jeeps are able to make it to places within the canyon that cannot be reached by hiking or car. You will be able to see some of the most beautiful ancient land in that region of the United States.

Jeep tours are a fun option for the whole family. You are able to view the sandstone canyon through the comfort and safety of a vehicle.

Tours can last from a number of hours to all day. There are different periods of time in which you can take one.

Try touring the canyon at dusk when the sun is setting. You will be able to view some of the most majestic earth ever created.
