One of the most popular places to visit in Moab is the Arches National Park. This area preserves over 2,000 natural sandstone arches, some of them have revealed millions of years of geological history.
The extraordinary features of the park are unlike any other in the world, with a landscape of contrasting colors, landforms and textures. Visitors can see many of these geologic wonders up close through guided tours and hiking adventures.
Tours are an excellent way to see Arches National Park; you will be guided to the most unique arch formations in the park, and you will learn the details of how the arches formed and the history behind them. Visitors can also choose to hike the various areas of the Park to explore and discover the wonder of the Arches themselves.
To be safe, hikers should carry a topographical map, stay on of close to marked trails, bring plenty of water, and bring a partner or group if possible. You may request a trail guide who will hike the arches with you or your group, but reservations must be made in advance.
The Arches National Park is truly one of the most unique places you will ever see. Another great place in Moab is the Canyonlands National Park by the Colorado River and its tributaries.
This park preserves a colorful landscape of sedimentary sandstones that have eroded into canyons, mesas and buttes. The Colorado and Green rivers divide the park into four districts: the Island in the Sky, the Needles, the Maze and the rivers themselves.
While the districts share a remote desert habitat, each retains its own character and offers different opportunities for exploration and sightseeing. One of the best ways to view the Canyonlands national Park is by a scenic flight that takes you over the entire park.
You can also see the park by way of a river rafting trip. This provides adventure and excitement, and still allows you to see everything that the park has to offer.
Another scenic area in Moab is the Dead Horse Point State Park. This park rests 2,000 feet directly above the Colorado River, and the mesa referred to as "Dead Horse Point" provides spectacular views of the canyons and the pinnacles and buttes of Canyonlands National Park.
This state park offers the best scenic views of the state of Utah. The Manti-La Sal National Forest has peaks that are over 12,000 feet high, and offer 1.4 million acres of cool pine forests, sparkling alpine lakes, and unique geology.
Exploring the Manti-La Sal National Forest can be done alone on foot or on bikes; or you can schedule a guided tour. Whether you choose to see the La Sal Mountains, Dead Horse Point, the Canyonlands, or the Arches, Moab offers many different guided tours that will not only join you in exploring the beautiful landscape, but will educate you on the history and formation of these majestic landscapes.
One of the most exciting tours is done in style from the comfort of a custom 4x4 Hummer vehicle. These made-for-exploring vehicles offer raised seating in the rear so that passengers can see the most out of their tour.
The tour is 60 miles long and takes you to all four of the parks in Moab so that you can take in all of the incredible natural landscapes that southern Utah has to offer. You will see the redrock deserts, sandstone sculptures, alpine overlooks, river corridors, towering cliffs, and much more.
The Hummer can take passengers atop awe-inspiring cliffs and overlooks and across any terrain so that they can see every part of the various parks in Moab. The Hummer tours are two hours long and can be scheduled for rides during the day, at sunset, or under the stars. Plan a trip to Moab, Utah and experience for yourself the natural wonders of geologic history in all four of the National and State parks.
