Emergencies happen all around us every single day. Perhaps you have even experienced your own fair share of them. Hurricanes, floods, fires, earthquakes, tornadoes, tsunamis and volcano eruptions are several forms of natural emergencies. Man-made emergencies that often befall society include, bridge collapses, terrorist attacks, wars, power outages, oil spills and water contamination. The point is that we never know when critical situations can confront us. Preparedness is the key. Lives can be saved.

I was recently in the Dominican Republic, I was living there over a period of a few years. I remember walking down a dusty street when I received a call on my cell phone. Haiti, the neighboring country, had just experienced a massive earthquake. This sent a chill down my spine. I knew the consequences would be fatal on an enormous scale. Why? Preparedness. Haiti was in no way shape or form prepared to experience such a disaster. As you know, hundreds of thousands of people died. Some of the preparedness depended on the efforts of the government, but many precautions could have been taken by individuals that would have saved many lives.

Maintaining an adequate amount of safe drinking water is one of the simplest ways to prepare for an emergency. Aid workers in Haiti could hand out water fast enough. There were no reasonable ways to access clean drinking water after the earthquake. We never know when something could compromise our water supply. Last time I checked a human being can live longer without food than without water. The wisest decision is to store at least three days worth of water for every individual in the family.

Storing water is simple. Clean out hard plastic containers with soap and water. Rinse them out thoroughly to reduce contamination. Fill them with water. An adequate amount is about one gallon per individual per day. Make sure to seal the containers tightly. Try to rotate the water storage every six months to guarantee a safe water supply. This step cannot be stressed enough. Water will be the first thing you need on hand when you find yourself in a tough situation. Many companies offer great water tanks for storage purposes. The best way to connect with the best deals in your area is by doing a google search. If you lived in Austin Texas, you could search, "water tanks in Austin" online and countless companies will appear.
Author Resource:- Tanks For Less (http://www.tanksforless.com/) is one of the best water tanks Austin has to offer.
