We got our first digital camera in 2004. In the last six years I have logged almost 17,000 pictures, a ridiculous amount. More photos than all the families in our small town put together had for the previous six years probably! That is the only draw back of digital, everyone shoots endless pictures of every gathering and then sends then to each other.
We used to take a nice roll of 24 exposure film for the whole Christmas season, a family vacation that lasted a week might get two rolls of film. Half were either over or underexposed so that cut the 50 down to 25 without problem. Now, a family week long vacation includes five cameras with 200 pictures each. It is hard to wade through all those smiling people at historic landmarks, national parks or beautiful beaches. When we went to Europe we had four cameras of about 500 pictures each. Who needs 2000 pictures of one vacation?
The problem of so many pictures can be cured with some passage of time and the delete button, but the problem of what to do with all the old pictures is also easily solved. In fact the less you did with your old pictures the better off you are today. My pictures are all in albums so scanning them is a real pain. If they are in boxes you can just send them off to a photo scanning service and they will send them all back on a digital disc. Easy as can be.
Photo scanning services, scan all your old pictures, put them on disc for you, send back all the originals along with the digital copy and years worth of picture are easily accessible. You can then make digital books that are so simple and years of family life, Christmases, vacations, pictures of your pets, a life of memories are easily manipulated, presented or stored. My Dad uses a movie application and make a movie for us of each family reunion. It is a fun memento to keep from our gatherings.
Digital photos are great, they make life easy and with the help of a photo scanner service your great grandparents pictures can be digital. Keep deleting and keep shooting. Life is worth the memories!
