Gourmet means fine food and so would gourmet coffee mean fine coffee? Today, you will notice the flourishing business of different coffee shops. This tends to be due to the many different coffee concoctions invented which resulted to the term - gourmet coffee. Although different delectable coffee can be prepared at home, coffee preparations in coffee shops seem to be mystical that coffee enthusiasts keep coming back for a sip.

What makes a coffee gourmet is its taste. And preferences vary to as many people there are in the cafe. Some may want the coffee hot, some prefer it cold. There are those who crave for the creamy type and others have gusto for the bitter one. People really have too much variation in their individual preferences. It is just - I like this, you love that!
Gourmet coffee can be a result of a combination of the following: the coffee beans, the flavoring and the preparation.

The Coffee Beans

The coffee beans can be the main criterion in the making of a gourmet coffee. Around the world, there are many different kinds of beans such that there are too many flavors. No matter how many they are, we end up with two major types - the Arabica and the Robusta. The Arabicas grow in higher elevation and these contain less caffeine in comparison to the Robustas which grow in lower elevation. Sometimes the question comes up as to whether the elevation is determinant of the caffeine content of the beans. Majority of the Arabicas are found in the regions along the Pacific and Indian oceans. The Robustas on the other hand are abundant along the African coast.

Flavoring

Preferences of people again come in when coffee flavoring is considered. Although flavoring of coffee has already been existent many centuries ago, this new taste in this international drink takes another turn. People would prefer the natural taste or the flavored one. Common spices used to add flavor to the coffee are cinnamon, cardamom, anise and clove. There are some who do the flavoring after roasting and before the grinding. Added to the coffee beans are flavoring oils which were created by chemists. Liquid flavors are cream and syrup. Some other flavors are fruits, chocolates and nuts.

Preparation

There happens to be lots of ways to prepare coffee - as the regular traditional type, black or with cream and sugar. Today, most of the gourmet and fancy coffee we find in many coffee shops start with espresso. Actually this is just a special brewed coffee. Examples of the espresso based gourmet coffee are the cafe latte, cafe mocha. cafe Americano, cappuchino and espresso macchiato.

Going to a coffee shop, you will find in your choices different types of coffee concoction. You do not have to wonder what they are; those are either Robusta or Arabica with different flavors and method of preparation.
