Dr. Jean Houston is well known within both psychological circles and the mainstream as being a revolutionary thinker, as well as putting thought into action as one of the founders of the Human Potential Movement. Far from staying strictly within the clinical circle, she has taken her exciting and inspiring speeches to schools, businesses, and organizations around the world. She has also spoken with a number of social leaders from around the country and the world, pressing forth her beliefs about the human potential and how to unlock it.

In addition to her basic psychological work, Jean Houston has made it a point in her long career to take her philosophies regarding the human potential to various cultures and countries around the world, many of them in a disadvantaged state. By taking her message to the far corners of the Earth, she has managed to inspire individuals and groups that may not have felt they had a chance to make it in a tough, unforgiving environment. In addition to asking them to unlock their own potential, she has helped them to hold on to what makes them unique as a culture even as they assimilate into what is commonly known as globalization.

Jean Houston was interested in the potential of the mind from very early on in her career. Along with her husband she founded The Foundation for Mind Research in 1965. She also founded the Mystery School in 1982, which has been dedicated to teaching many different facets of human development. These facets are found in a number of different disciplines, some of which you may be surprised to see taught together at the same institution, but all of which work in tandem to unlock the true human potential. Some of these areas of study include mythical and spiritual studies, psychology, history, and anthropology.

In addition to her work through her foundations and schools, she has published numerous articles and books for both the professional reader and the mass audience. These books include a Passion for the Possible, Manual of the Peacemaker, and Public Like a Frog. She also helped Hillary Clinton write her award winning bestseller, It Takes a Village in the 1990s.

Those wishing to learn more about the philosophies of Jean Houston should read some of her books and find downloads of her speeches online. Only by hearing her work and theories through her own words can one gain an understanding of what it really means to unlock their full human potential.
