An effective resume basically does what a good advertisement does for any company, acting as a tool to target a particular audience, similarly a good resume acts like an advertisement, the only difference being, that the jobseeker is the product and the employer is the target customer who is waiting for the right product, the idea here, is that the resume acts as a marketing tool for the job seeker, leading to a better job in a good company.

A great resume does not just tell what you have done but makes the same assertion that all good advertisements do. It convinces the employer, that you have what it takes, to be successful in this new position or career. A successful resume is not only written keeping ones qualification in mind, but also keeps in mind, the employer and his requirements regarding the job and how one would satisfy those requirements.

Thus an impressive resume is a document of details about education, experience, professional skills, talents, achievements and personal background of a job seeker, documented in such a manner that it may reach one to better placements.

Each one of us admittedly knows now the need to provide a quality resume that will increase our chances of getting hired. But usually, where do we get stuck? It is when we do not know the necessary things for how to write an executive resume or the things required to write a good resume. Executive level resumes must focus to show the different types of career and therefore are required to be different from an average resume.

In the process of how to write an executive resume, does not necessarily mean you have to follow the rules. It does not have to be on one page or should follow a specific resume format. It must be appropriate to your situation and present exactly what you want it to convey. Instead of a bunch of rules and tips, one has to follow the most basic principles of writing a highly effective resume.

To understand why one should have a resume in the first place, one should take a look at the purpose of the resume and what actually it is supposed to do. Most of the content of any resume is focused on job history whereas it should be written with the intention to create interest in you and to persuade the employer to call you.

If the purpose behind writing a good resume in the proper way is realized, it can be your ticket to getting exactly the job you want you may be able, to develop some genuine enthusiasm to create a real masterpiece, rather than the feeble products most people turn out.
