When you think of countries in the world where you would need to buy blinds Ireland is not really one of them. It is not renowned for its summer scorchers when you need to keep the heat out or to block the sunlight from fading your soft furnishings and neither is it known to be such a bright and summery country that you really need to shield yourself from the light.
That said, many blinds are sold by interior furnishing shops to the Irish public and there must be a reason for this.
Ok, so we have established that it is not their blazing summers that make people use blinds in Ireland. However, the country is not as dreary as you may think. It is a country famous for its beautiful rolling countryside and forty shades of green. You would not get this greenery if the weather was not as wet as it is.
There is a saying that you can tell the season in Ireland by the temperature of the rain. Well, we can all cope with a little rain and if it keeps the countryside looking this majestic then so be it.
A window blind will enable anyone living or visiting Ireland to open up their view to the best imaginable, to take in the landscape of rolling fields, lush trees and limitless flora and fauna that you are unlikely to find in other parts of the world. Why shut this out with heavy curtains or nets?
The people of Ireland have become accustomed to this weather and just go with the flow. They take advantage of the scenic beauty it provides and they weather it out, so to speak, by getting out and getting on with things regardless. They also have the advantage of rarely having a cold extreme to deal with and I am sure we could all do without that too.
Considering the interior of the Irish home, blinds are also popular as a thermal insulation against the chillier days. With their rich, warm colours and thermal lining, blinds are as effective an insulation as curtains without blocking any daytime views or cluttering up the windows of those quaint little cottages.
Furnishing a home in Ireland, whether you live their or simply have a holiday home, is a fund project. It actually also takes some skill to utilise the elements and make the best of your home. So you might not have a blaze of sun streaming through the windows but simply utilise colours to their best advantage. Try using a cheery sunny yellow pain on the walls and a yellow window blind. Even the smallest amount of light coming through here will give the room a much warmer glow.
If you like the real minimalist look but live in a gloomier climate like Ireland then opt for soft creams instead of white. The uncluttered look will remain the same but without the coldness. Different shades of cream mixed with some black accessories and some soft lighting and neutral blind will offer the simplistic look you desire but remain warm and homely.
There are lots of different ways you can utilise blinds for your interior decoration but just remember not to overlook them altogether.
