Being a little kid is awesome. The most ordinary and almost annoying things of daily life for an adult could be pure joy and almost magical to a child.
Think about raking the leaves. When the fall season begins to approach and the leaves on the trees in your yard begin to shift from green to orange, brown or red, you realize that soon that majestic outdoor color symphony in your lawn is about to turn into your four hour raking project on Saturday afternoon. You will probably have to miss that football game. To a child, when the leaves begin to turn colors this is only the start to the fun. As each leaf disconnects with its respective branch and gently falls onto the lawn, the child is staring out the window anticipating the huge pile of crunchy soft leaves that will soon protect him from the frozen ground as he jumps tirelessly into the mound.
Think about the amusement park. You wait in line for twenty minutes, waiting for the check-in workers to slap an uncomfortable event wristband around your arm. The entire rest of the day you are probably tugging and pulling at the event wristband in hasty discomfort. Your day at the park ends and the second you get outside the gates you are already ripping that thing of your wrist and throwing it away. The experience of a child is quite different. A kid stands in line tirelessly, anxiously waiting for the check-in workers to grant his wrist with the honor of wearing a brightly colored purple event wristband that symbolizes freedom to ride any ride in the park. Wearing this wristband is a sacred privilege, it distinguishes you from anyone that chose to stay at home instead of taming rides like the Dueling Dragon or the Sidewinder. It is not everyday your wrist is bestowed such honor. After every daring ride or water submersion, the child dutifully checks to see if that purple event wristband is still in place. When the day in heaven ends, the child keeps that wristband on for days. It becomes an item to be showed off to other kids at school and represents all of the adventures had at the park.
The imagination and wonder of being a kid is refreshing. It can turn the most ordinary moments into situations of excitement and exploration. You will never look at that event wristband the same.
