If you are thinking of selling your property, then you must seriously look at the condition of your lawn and any landscaping you have on your property. If that has been lacking maintenance then you must ensure that you attend to it immediately so that your property looks appealing. Remember that a well maintained lawn or landscape adds great value to the property and a potential buyer will be highly impressed with it. After all, many people are desperate for a nice lawn or landscape to adorn the front of their property considering the many advantages. It is a well-known fact that nice landscaping can reduce pollution and even bring about energy efficiency if the plants are chosen properly.

Lawn maintenance is, however, an activity that needs to be done regularly. Some of the steps mentioned below will help you avoid a situation wherein you suddenly have to do a lot to get the lawn in order.

1) Ensure that the lawn gets enough water at least once a week, especially during dry conditions. The lawn should be submerged at least under two inches of water.

2) Use appropriate fertilisers at the right time. The recommendation is early fall or early winter and the application has to be evenly done.

3) The fertilisers must include vital nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Nitrogen confers the dark green colour, while phosphorus and potassium are important for the roots to be healthy and the plant itself to develop adequate resistance against adverse weather conditions respectively.

4) Soil testing needs to be done on a regular basis to check the quantity of nutrients the soil requires. This can be done using a soil test kit which will identify any traces of pH imbalance in the soil so that you can take remedial measures.

5) Any outgrowth of weeds must be controlled by removing them by hand and this is best done when the soil is moist. That will enable you to remove the weeds from the root itself.

6) Maintain the height of the lawn to between six to eight inches. Keep the mower blades sharp and replace worn out ones.

7) Use the lawn mower in many different directions and leave behind the clippings. They make for a good fertiliser.

8) Do not allow pests to accumulate on shrubs or trees and wash them away before they start infecting your garden.

9) Make sure that the water drainage system is alright and is not choked up.

If doing all of the above does not interest you, then you can outsource the work to lawn maintenance agencies. They possess the necessary expertise and experience to ensure that your lawn and landscape looks the best at all times. They would be able to provide consultancy services also if you wish. Remember that the amount of money you would spend for such a service would be well worth it, especially if you plan to sell your property in the near future. It will pay itself back in the form of a better price for your well maintained property.
