Ropes are required for a range of purposes from tying to hauling. They are made of natural fibers like jute and hemp as well as manmade materials like steel. Wire ropes were initially made from wrought iron, but today are made of steel. They were developed in Germany and became popular because they were stronger than hemp ropes or metal chains.
