There are many consequences to getting traffic tickets. Usually with your first one, you are going to have some type of fine to pay. However, having multiple tickets can result in points being added to your license in most states. You still have a fine to pay for, and in some cases, you will have to go to traffic school as well. That does not include the increase in your insurance. There are ways to avoid most of this though.

One of the best ways to avoid getting a ticket is not to get one at all. However, if you do wind up getting pulled over, here are some tips to help get you out of the mess. Not all will work, but they may just save you a few dollars, and even a ticket.

You should always try and be courteous to the police officer that is stopping you. This may sound simple, but cops are people too, that are just out doing their job, so they expect you to treat them with respect, and you should also be courteous. This will most likely help you in the long run, and will save you from getting a ticket in some cases.

Another good trick is to turn off the stereo so you can hear their instructions, and they will not feel like you are distracted, or even get distracted themselves. That way you can hear what they are saying clearly. There is nothing more aggravating then trying to talk to someone who seems distracted or not paying attention at all.

Attitude is very important as well, so do not get angry. You might be having a bad day, but it is best you keep your cool, be nice, and give the officer your attention. By giving a cop any type of attitude, is not helping you at all. Keep in mind that officers are just like us, and they may have a bad day too. With that being said, just sit there and keep quiet, and only talk when spoken to. No good will come out of you going toe to toe with a cop.

If you have been caught speeding too fast, do not be too afraid to ask if you can see the radar gun. Most cases, they will show it to you, and if you do not think it is right, you can discuss it over with the cop, but you will get better results by taking it to court. There are so many ways to fight a ticket, so remember to be patient if you go to court, and your time will come.

You should also make sure you prepare yourself for your court case. Try to remember all the little details, and take notes to use to prove your case. This will only strengthen your case, and in turn, lead to charges and a ticket being dismissed.

Overall, the best way to stay ticket free is to be courteous to the cop and have respect. If you are not able to do that, take some of these tips into consideration so you can have a good chance to not get a traffic ticket.
