It is a trending phenomenon in this country, teen alcoholism. There are a lot of ways for teenagers to get alcohol. They can get through friends who have parents that drink. They can get alcohol from older friends, just about anywhere. It is up to you to stop them from obtaining this alcohol but you cannot babysit them all day. Eventually they will be alone with their friends and start drinking. There are other ways to stop them from drinking. You can educate them on the dangers of drinking, what it can do to the body, and explain to them how it ruins lives.

Teenagers are hard headed; they do not listen to most of this advice. The only way they seem to really understand is when something happens to them or their friends, and usually be then it is far too late to do anything about it. If you know that your teenage son or daughter is drinking then you must take a different approach, intervention. You have to get them some real help and that usually means getting them to a dry place. There are many good places that counsel kids on teen alcoholism. There are some after school programs and there are some temporary housing facilities that give them 24 hour attention.

You must decide what kind of intervention is needed. If they are seen by a counselor and it seems to be working out, then you do not need to take further steps. If you have someone who is always escaping the home to go out and drink, or if they are skipping their counselor sessions, then you will need to take more drastic measures. There are some places that help with teenage alcoholism that places the teenager in a facility far from life as we know it. Some of these places are actually located in deserts, where escape is not even a consideration. In return they are given real help with fun activities to keep their minds off of alcohol and drugs.

If parents learn about what their teenager is doing on a daily basis, the odds of getting into trouble are greatly reduced. Unfortunately this is not realistic because keeping tabs on your teenager will certainly damage your relationship with them. You will have to talk with your kid in a candid way without being too nosy. Try and inform them of the problems of alcoholism and let them live their lives.
