If you're halfway or further through your high school experience, then there's a good chance you are beginning to fret over upcoming college applications. While this is certainly a stressful time, most students manage to navigate their way through it effectively and get into one of their choice schools and then proceed into rewarding collegiate years.

But there are definitely a few things you can do to increase your chances of success while reducing your anxiety throughout these crucial months and even years. I hope some of these tips can be useful to you as you prepare for the next big step in your life.

As you investigate higher education, don't forget to begin applying for scholarships. Each school has its own set of merit and/or sports scholarships, but there are many extraneous financial gifts available through third party organizations.

Be careful about using the internet to pinpoint such potential financial aids, as this can lead you to spam or even identity theft. There are websites that can compile scholarships for which you may qualify, however, so talk to your teachers or your advisor to find out how to access and navigate them.

Apply for as many as you can, even if you aren't sure if you fit all the requirements. Many teens don't think much about the financial aspects of higher education, but once you're older, you will feel relieved that you did everything you could to stay out of debt.

Extracurricular activities are attractive on your college applications, but don't overdo it. You need to put academics first and foremost. If you're constantly having to skimp on sleep in order to complete assignments, then you need to cut back on some of your outside occupations.

It might be beneficial to begin using a day planner to organize your time. Be sure to begin major projects as early as possible so that you don't have to cram them into a short span and potentially get a poorer grade than you're capable of earning.

If you're struggling with a particular subject and find yourself falling behind, then contact tutors in your area to get you up to speed. Professional tutors have the training and experience to use a teaching method that caters to your learning style.

Many tutoring services also offer test preparation so that you can feel more confident walking into the SAT or ACT exam, which will increase your chances of getting the outcome you want from your applications.

Finally, just try to keep things balanced. It's important to work hard, but it's equally important to have fun and enjoy rewarding experiences with friends and family members.
