Nestled happily in the United States' Mid Atlantic region of the eastern seaboard, the traveler can find a host of interesting things to do in Maryland. One of the smallest of the states, its' people also enjoy the highest median income level in the nation. Tiny and prosperous, this is a popular place to visit for a number of reasons.
Perhaps the most famous and prominent feature of the state is the Chesapeake Bay which neatly bisects the region. This beautiful bay attracts tourists constantly. Those who are interested in boating, whale watching, or fishing will likely have no trouble securing a charter vessel for the afternoon.
The state is sometimes referred to as a "miniature America" because of the incredibly range of topography it presents. The environment in this small region changes from sand dunes to marshland and from rolling hills to tall mountains. Campers, hikers, and most other outdoor enthusiasts will probably be satisfied with the range of options available to them.
There is tremendous history here. Some tourists come to see the historic sites, like the trails left over from the Civil War. One of the most popular tours goes along the "Star Spangled Banner Trail" between Solomon's Island and Baltimore. This guided tour include re-enactments and many important sites from the time of the American Civil War.
For many visitors, the relaxation of a coastal getaway is all that they need. Old lighthouses dot the shores, and excellent little restaurants might be discovered in any of the small waterfront villages. Seafood is a big part of life here.
Whether they want to explore the history of this wonderful region or simply relax by the sea with a delicious lunch, visitors are almost assured of finding things to do in Maryland. Vineyards, wineries, boating, and golf all await the traveler in this lovely little state.
