He studied at The South African School of Motion Picture medium and Life performance and at NYU's Tisch School of Arts where he also wrote a short film which had a duration of 8 minutes which was inspired by a short story written by Roald Dahl. He started his career at the age of 26 with the movie Darkness falls which was his first Hollywood debut and which was also nominated for the best horror/teen choice awards in the year 2003.
Some other films which he has worked on The Texas chainsaw massacre, the killing room, Rings etc. He has also received an award for the Hollywood Young Filmmaker Award in the year 2000 at the Hollywood film festival and at the Austin Film Festival; he won the award for the best short film.
