Are you struggling to pull off an amazing classroom party that will keep the kids entertained and also maintain some order? Here are five ideas that will jump start your creativity and be sure to please the children and teacher alike. Applying some of these techniques could greatly increase the energy and participation of your class. We suggest that you first start with a theme. Here are a few suggestions of activities you could organize around these themes. Most of these ideas would work best if you split up the class into smaller groups so only 5 or 6 students are doing an activity at one time.
Rodeo Style
Everyone loves to be a cowboy for a bit. Provide or make hats, set up a bull and have an 8 second contest and practice roping a log. You could also have them race around barrels while straddling toy horses.
Carnival Style
Make it colorful and bright! With simple decorations in a red, yellow and white theme you're already halfway there. Set up booths with carnival-style games such as throw the ring over the milk bottles, darts, or toss ping pongs into a small kids swimming pool. Rent or buy cotton candy supplies to make it extra special.
Knights and Princess Style
Have a craft table set up to create a princess wand or a knight's sword. Each child can then go on an adventure looking for the kingdom's lost key. Allow them to frost cookies that have been cut out in the shape of crowns. Look for sprinkles and other decorations for the cookies that resemble jewels.
Pirate Style
Placing a square of fabric around each child's head and an eye patch will surely get them in the mood to hunt for treasure. Talk about the different elements of a map and then have them follow the clues to find the treasure box. Of course it wouldn't be complete without something yummy to eat at the end.
Talent Show Style
Notify parents and students ahead of time to come prepared with a short talent to share. Each student can take 1 to 2 minutes to tell funny jokes, teach a skill, play the flute or even just do a somersault for the rest of the class. Being low-cost and nearly no preparation for you, you will be pleased to see what the kids come up with. It is also a great platform to teach the kids to take pride in their skills and abilities.
