So you have decided to go for porcelain floor tiles for your house after taking into account the many advantages they hold over other tile varieties. This is a very crucial and important decision as the right tiles can indeed boost the aesthetic appearance of your house many times over. However, home renovation can indeed become an exciting and enjoyable experience only when you are sure as well as clear about how you wish to go about the entire process. You need to know where to draw the line as far as your own involvement is concerned with regard to taking on some of the projects such as carpentry or fixing tiles is concerned with the intent of saving some money.

While you may have the expertise to do a fairly good job on your own, it has been often proved that such jobs are best left to professionals who are skilled and do this for a living. They obviously have refined their trade and skills over time and considering that you are going in for a renovation to give a fresh look to your house, trying to save money by taking on such jobs with often disastrous results would be a case of being penny wise and pound foolish.

Do not go by the many shows on cable television where they make it seem as if laying floor tiles is pretty easy to accomplish. When you hand over such jobs to professionals, the ultimate finish that you get is a perfect one with the floor leveling flawless. Remember that a job well done automatically increases the resale value of your property and you should therefore consider the expense as an investment for the future when you would be able to get a much better value for your property.

This does not mean that you leave everything to the contractor or mason you have engaged for laying the tiles. The selection of the porcelain floor tiles should be something that you should take on. After all, you are going to stay in that house and you and the family needs to approve and be comfortable with the colour, patterns as well as size.

Some tips when selecting the tiles are as under:

a) Select them only after looking at them under different lighting conditions. They do tend to appear different in the morning as compared to night time and you must bring samples home to view them at different times to finally select the right one.

b) Take cognisance of any colour running through the tiles as once you lay them; they will appear more prominently and unless you like that particular colour, you should not be selecting those tiles.

c) Be wary about tiles with wavy edges and with bold patterns as they tend to get accentuated when actually laid and unless you are sure about such preferences, you should desist from selecting them.

The selection and installation of porcelain floor tiles needs to be done keeping the above considerations in view to ensure that your money is well spent.
