Backup and security of company's sensitive information and digital data assets is vital to the sustainability and prosperity of your organization. Sony can help with its comprehensive line up of backup storage solutions that are ideal for a broad variety of IT environments. Sony ensures longevity and superior quality in each of its product, making it the best brand worthy of your priceless data assets.

Sony continues to invent new backup media solutions while improving the existing storage technologies. Sony engineered the AIT (advanced intelligent tape) tape storage technology to address the growing demands of entry-level servers, data-intensive applications and SMBs.

Sony LIB-162/A3 tape library delivers reliable and highly cost-effective automated backup storage performance in today's demanding IT environments. The tape library supports AIT 3 tape version. Sony LIB-162/A3 library can be populated with 16 AIT-3 tape cartridges and up to two AIT 3 drives. Great news is that you won't require large space as it can easily be packaged in a 2U height.

LIB-162/A3 library offers 1.6 TB (native) and 4.16 TB (compressed) media storage capacity. A single AIT-3 tape can hold 100GB/260GB data. Best of all, you can write and read data from AIT-1 & AIT-2 tapes with AIT-3 drive. Sony AIT-3 cartridges are also available with WORM functionality. WORM (write once, read many) mechanism allows information to be recorded and added, but prevents modifications and over-writings. This enables the customers to meet the rigid mandates of government regulations. Five generations of AIT tape have been introduced. Following are the Sony AIT cartridges' part numbers:

Sony AIT-1 tapes
Sdx1-35c, sdx1-25c

Sony AIT-2 tapes
Sdx2-36C, sdx2-50c, sdx2-50w

Sony AIT-3 tapes
Sdx3-100c, sdx3-100w

Sony AIT-4 tapes
Sdx4-200c, sdx4200www

Sony AIT-5 tapes
Sdx5-400c, sdx5-400w

Sony has incorporated an extremely robust drive head that ensures precise data tracking and provides an unmatched 400,000 power-on-hours MTBF. Sony has embedded a 64-kbit memory chip in each AIT-3 tape that further speeds up the data access and searching times. Dust particles and debris can affect the overall performance. Sony as always, has engineered a smart solution to provide protection against airborne contaminants. An automated head cleaner system has been introduced in Sony AIT 3 drives that reduces the error rate and ensures long term reliability. In addition, you should also use cleaning cartridges to keep the drives in good working order. Sony SDX1-CL, AIT cleaning cartridge can be confidently used with AIT3, AIT2 and AIT1 drives.

Sony LIB-162/A3 library has been carefully engineered for continuous, unattended backup operations. Its impressive backup rate of 172.8 GB per hour (compressed) enables the users to record large data files within a reasonable time frame. The library features a barcode reader that reliably scans the labels on backup tapes to ensure efficient data management.

The average cartridge access time is less than 14 seconds, which provides you complete confidence of in-time data availability. Sony has applied special diamond-like carbon coating to reduce the tape wear-and-tear. As a result, the archival life of Sony AIT-3 tape cartridge has been extended to 30 years.
