We all know what happens to your games once you beat them or lose interest: very little. They usually sit on s shelf for months or even years, just collecting dust. But what if I told you you can get a lot more use out of these old, beaten, and unwanted games? You can.

The game resale market is thriving, having flourished over the past few economically difficult years. Used games are in demand; in fact, some people only buy used games now. The Wii has also become very popular over the last few years with its relatively cheap price tag. That means you can sell Wii games for a very fair price, but there are a few more things you should know in order to get top dollar.

When deciding what to pay you for your game, the buyer will generally look at several factors:

* Condition
o Both the condition of the game disc and the case are important.
o A game with the case, instruction booklet, and disc in like-new condition will yield about 50% more than a game with a trashed case and a missing booklet, even if the game still works.

* Release Date
o Newer games are generally more in demand than games from a few years back.
o Expect drastic differences in your return: a game released last month may be worth as much as 80% of its retail value when resold; however, in two years that same game might be worth 10% of the original value or less.

* Popularity
o While most new games cost the same amount, games that are anticipated years before they are actually released have a very good resale value, and they tend to retain it better than no-name games released without any advertising or buzz.

In summary, a popular, recently released game in near-new condition will resell fairly close to its retail value. That's not to say you shouldn't try to sell a game lacking one or any of these traits; most used game buyers will buy any game you bring in, and the game probably isn't doing you any good by collecting dust on your shelf.

The extra money from selling your old games can be used to pay unexpected expenses, buy a gift for someone, or even to buy more games. If you buy more games with the money from selling your games, you can start a cycle that allows you to play tons of games at minimum cost to you.
