Research is the vital part of any marketing plan, your effort should produce answers to who your prospects are, and the questions where, why and how they are converted into prospective buyers. You should prepare a strategic marketing plan looking at how your products or service will meet the terms and needs of your customers.

Or simply stated, marketing is everything you do to place your product or service in the hands of potential customers. This includes diverse disciplines like sales, public relations, pricing, packaging, promotion and distribution.

A good marketing plan also helps you focus your energy and resources. It is very hard to see the single-mindedness of our own logic sometimes - sometimes we need to see things from other people's points of view before we realize just how singular our original point of view may have been.

You must know how you want your company, products or service to be perceived by customer, position your company in relation to the competition and making marketing strategy accordingly.

Or put another way, if business is the art of persuading someone to part with something (usually their money) in exchange for something you have to offer (your product or service). Marketing is the art of finding the right people to persuade and how to achieve this.

And the most brilliant business strategy won't help you earn a profit or achieve your wildest dreams if it isn't built around the right people -- your potential customers. Performing market research and competitor analysis reports is a necessary part of planning a profitable online business. Before investing money into your online business, you must gather information about your potential customers, demand for your product of service and understand your Competitors strategies.

The Internet is a completely new type of media, and marketing services and products over the Internet requires a new way of thinking. An intimate familiarity with the Internet technology and the Internet culture is necessary.

But marketing doesn't just begin with a great idea or a unique product. It really begins with customers -- those people who want or need your product and will actually buy it.

Each customer has his or her own unique perceptions of the world based on their belief system. The most innovative ideas, the greatest products, or a superior service succeed only when you market with these perceptions in mind.
Your customers can only buy from you if they know that you exist!

You will need to 'educate your market' about your products/services. Selling your products or services is a tough job. Don't get dispirited by countless refusals and let downs by potential customers. Very often people are too polite to say 'no' when they are not interested in your business proposals. Being 'led up the garden path' is just another aspect of sales and, if you have researched your market properly, you will soon find buyers.

Marketing on the Internet requires creating new ways for your target audience to find their way to your Web site. Part of any good Internet marketing program is finding Web sites that would be willing to put a link to your Web site. These links can also be tracked for frequency and incentives.

The Internet does not replace existing marketing and advertising programs, but they must work in concert for maximum benefit. We work with your marketing department to use your existing marketing and advertising programs to drive traffic and business to your Web site.

There are lots of marketing tips available in the Internet and elsewhere; it is up to you to find out which ones are viable for your ecommerce business. Doing research is still the best way to figure this out. Plunging into something you don't know a single thing about is the beginning of your businesses end.
