Motivate your Staff!

With today’s competitive job market, companies will often see a sudden rise in staff turnover. Taking into account the pressures of the modern workplace, the cause of all this job-hopping becomes a little clearer – de-motivation. A good employer knows that a happy worker is a productive one. Here are a few helpful hints about keeping your employee’s spirits up!

Encourage a little fun in the workplace! Many employers are under the misconception that if your employees start having some fun in the office, no work will be done. The effect of a little joke here and there can do quite the opposite. Showing a more humorous side of your self will inevitably put people more at ease in their working environment. Your employees will most likely feel stressed at some point during each day, so it may be nice to have some short breaks so that people have a chance to wind down.

Ensure that when talking to your employees, you show respect for their opinions. Consider their views on certain things and ask them if they can help you to solve difficult problems. Tell them when they have done well. This way, they will feel more involved in the inner workings of the company and therefore more enthusiastic about keeping it running smoothly.

Some employers offer their staff incentives and bonuses. This works wonders as it gives staff a reason to do their best. Be wary of what you offer different people. If one employee receives a better incentive than certain other members of staff, it could be very destructive.

Having regular ‘catch up meetings’ will show employees that you want to know how they are coping. By showing them that you are there to talk should they need you, they will feel more inclined to tell you when they are feeling de-motivated. You will then have a chance to help them overcome obstacles that they might encounter whilst at work.

There are many other ways to keep staff working and smiling, and your job as the boss is to watch your staff closely and try to help them when you see them slipping. Bear in mind that there is no harm in a casual atmosphere in the workplace provided that good quality work is still being produced.
